Chickpea Mediterranean Salad

May 15, 2017 By Angela Renee Leave a Comment

I love to cook at home and do so most nights each week. Lately, I find myself getting my recipes from Jessica! Her site is called “Jessica in the Kitchen.”  She has gluten free, dairy free, nut free — so many options.

One of my favorite recipes from her blog is Mediterranean Chickpea Salad and there are many more I can’t wait to try!

Easy. Healthy. Yummy.

Push-ups too Challenging?

May 12, 2017 By Angela Renee Leave a Comment

Typically a push-up is too hard when you are just starting out on a fitness plan.  Here’s how you “introduce” a push-up into your workouts:

The Incline Push-up

1. Instead of starting on the floor, place your hands against the wall in front of you, a barre, or the edge of your kitchen counter!

2. Walk your feet back so your body is slightly angled in, keeping your abdominals (core) tight.

3. Lower your chest to the edge, keeping your shoulders down the whole time.

4. Squeeze the back of your arms and push away to return to the starting position. Work your way up to 20 repetitions.

Thyroid Disease – Could it be Hashimoto’s?

May 9, 2017 By Angela Renee Leave a Comment

Since one in five women will be affected by Hashimoto’s or another thyroid disorder at some point in their lives, I am spending this week reading “Hashimoto’s Protocol, A 90-Day Plan for Reversing Thyroid Symptoms and Getting Your Life Back” by Izabella Wentz. She is one of the pioneering experts in lifestyle interventions for treating Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Symptoms of thyroid dysfunction could include hair loss, anxiety, joint pain, gastrointestinal distress, extreme fatigue, allergies, and acid reflux to name a few! Here is a link to Izabella Wentz’s site where you can find lots of information.

Are You Dirty or Clean?

April 6, 2017 By Angela Renee Leave a Comment

clean dirty fruits vegetablesEach year, the Environmental Working Group publishes the Dirty Dozen and Clean 15 lists. They show the fruits and vegetables with the most pesticides and the least amount of pesticides, respectively.

I like to take this list with me when I go to the grocery store because I want to choose my fruits and vegetables based on the Clean 15.

And you can, too!

Probiotics — Not Just Yogurt

March 26, 2017 By Angela Renee Leave a Comment

I love to geek out over all the different ways we can incorporate probiotics into our diets.

Of course, yogurt is a great source of probiotics, but there are so many more out there.

I recently came across an article on paleohacks.com, which shows nine probiotic-rich foods other than yogurt!

Check out the photo below, and comment on this post to let me know which of these foods you are adding to your meals.

Ab Exercise Don’ts!

March 22, 2017 By Angela Renee Leave a Comment

Okay ladies, this is absolutely ridiculous! Here are just a couple of “Ab” exercises that you NEVER want to do.

This was an actual article. Sigh…

Focus on Feet

December 16, 2016 By Angela Renee Leave a Comment

tennis ballThis week in RELEASE class we focused on our feet! You can do this at home too. Grab a tennis ball if you are just starting out, or have very tender feet, and roll the bottom of your foot around on the ball: up and down, sideways, circles. The harder you press into the ball the more you feel it – you decide. Work your way up to using a golf ball.

All it takes is 5 minutes and the affects are amazing!

Moms and Daughters Keeping Fit Together

July 19, 2016 By Angela Renee Leave a Comment

mother daughter workoutsApple doesn’t fall far…

One of my favorite things about summer is that my clients bring their daughters to classes with them! It’s fun to see mothers and daughters bonding through movement. Ages 19 to 65 — all in one room. I even see moms trying to help instruct their daughters on their form. (The ARTbody women know good form and how to exercise properly!) It’s also very cool when their daughters realize how fit their moms have gotten. They cannot believe how strong they are!

Apple Cider Vinegar: Your Daily Health Drink

June 22, 2016 By Angela Renee 1 Comment

apple cider vinegarDaily, I have been consuming an apple cider vinegar drink. I just feel better when I do! My daughter is now drinking it every day, too! I buy Bragg’s raw, organic, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. There are many different brands, and in a good bottle, you should see some strand-like sediment floating at the bottom. I have included a few links to just some of the many uses and benefits of apple cider vinegar. The links are from mindbodygreen.com, which is one of my favorite websites! It is a daily read for me. Always learning!!

Recipe for my daily ACV drink

  • 8 ounces of water
  • ½ juice from fresh squeezed lemon
  • 1-3 teaspoons of Braggs Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (Shake the bottle to blend before using.)  I started with one teaspoon and worked my way up to a tablespoon.
  • Stevia to sweeten. I use 4-6 drops, personal preference.
  • Stir and pour over ice

Natural, Organic Options with Thrive Market

June 21, 2016 By Angela Renee Leave a Comment

Thrive Market

I just placed my second order with Thrive Market!

What is Thrive Market?

“Thrive Market is the first socially conscious online store offering the world’s best-selling natural and organic products at wholesale prices.” It’s like a Costco for Whole Foods-type products.  All products are 25-50% off retail prices.

I typically buy Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar. A 16-ounce bottle on Amazon is around $10, but through Thrive Market, it costs $3.35! A box of Mighty Leaf Tea costs around $9 in most stores, but through Thrive Market, it’s $5.95.

Here is How It Works:

You pay a membership fee like Costco, Netfilx, etc., which is $5 per month. The membership pays for itself in savings. AND if you don’t make your membership fee back in savings by the end of the year, they will automatically give you the difference in Thrive Market credit after you renew. I have made my membership up with only two orders.

Thrive also has a social mission committed to giving a free membership to a low-income family for every paid member who joins Thrive. Also, they have carefully screened their products to ensure they do not carry any GMO foods, and that they are USDA Certified Organic. Click the link below and check it out.  You can try a month for free and see for yourself. See link below!
